  Benefits
Crossrail Glasgow will benefit passengers from across Scotland as well as in Strathclyde. There will be advantages for both business users and leisure visitors. There are also major environmental gains to be had from constructing the Crossrail link.

Helping businesses
The south west of Scotland represents a massive 42% of the country's economic output. Crossrail is essential to keep Glasgow competitive and to ensure that the transport structure is in place to support the region's ambitious growth plans.

The scheme will also allow easier access to colleges, universities, shopping centres and business parks. With increased connections to both Glasgow and Prestwick International airports from across Scotland, business travel by air will also be much easier.

Crossrail will improve links between the routes going into both Glasgow Central and Queen Street stations which will save valuable time, improve reliability and speed up journey times.

Providing leisure benefits
As well as benefiting business and industry, Crossrail will allow improvements like better access to shops, cinemas, and bars/restaurants. Crossrail Glasgow may also allow tourists to travel from across Scotland to both Glasgow International and Prestwick International airports. Days out to the Ayrshire seaboard towns and villages will also be much easier by rail.

Crossrail Glasgow is a vital transport link for Glasgow's 2014 Commonwealth Games bid. The plans will enable those travelling by train from all across Scotland to gain direct access to a number of stations near our top sporting venues, like Hampden Park.

New stations at Glasgow Cross, the Gorbals and West Street will mean that residents in these areas will have better connections to workplaces and leisure destinations. Even visiting friends and family will be much easier.

Protecting the environment
As concerns about climate change grow, increasing numbers of commuters and visitors want to switch to more sustainable forms of transport. Research shows that demand for rail travel in Scotland is increasing. Crossrail Glasgow will allow more trains to run to and from more destinations, making it easier for people to switch from road to rail.
